← Day 6Day 7 of 180Day 8 β†’

Learning Objectives

1

Child will know that God made birds with wings to fly

2

Child will move and act like different birds

3

Child will appreciate God's wonderful creation of flying animals

Genesis 1:20-21

β€œGod said, 'Let the waters abound with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the sky.' God created the large sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed, after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind. God saw that it was good.”

β€” Genesis 1:20-21 (WEB)

This verse shows us that God specifically created birds to fly in the sky, and He was pleased with His creation of flying creatures.

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • animal picture cards (birds)
  • construction paper
  • open space for movement

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Let's start by listening... do you hear any birds singing outside? Yesterday we learned about fishies that swim in the water. Today we're going to learn about God's flying friends - the birdies!

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you swim like the fishies we learned about yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

God made so many wonderful birdies! Look at these bird pictures. See their wings? God gave birds special wings so they can fly high up in the sky. Birds can flap their wings and soar above the trees! Some birds sing beautiful songs - tweet, tweet! Some birds are tiny like hummingbirds, and some are big like eagles. God made each birdie special and different.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God gave birds wings to fly
  • Birds live in the sky and trees
  • Each bird sings its own special song
  • God made big birds and little birds
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What sounds do birds make?
  • Have you seen birds flying outside?
  • What colors are birds?
3Activity: Flying Like God's Birds (6 min)
movement

Now we get to move and fly like the beautiful birds God made! We'll pretend to be different kinds of birds and learn how they move.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Start by flapping your arms gently like little sparrow wings while walking around
  2. Now spread your arms wide and soar like a big eagle - move slowly and smoothly
  3. Flap very fast like a tiny hummingbird - quick little movements!
  4. Hop on the ground and peck for seeds like a robin
  5. Stretch your neck up tall like a swan and move gracefully
  6. End by 'perching' (sitting) and singing a birdie song together
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Just focus on arm flapping and walking around the room

Challenge: Add different bird sounds for each type of bird movement

4Closing (3 min)

What fun we had flying like God's birdies! God made birds so special with their wings and beautiful songs. Every time you see a bird outside, you can remember that God made it!

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • What did God give birds so they can fly?
  • What sounds do birdies make?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making beautiful birds that fly and sing. Help us remember that You made everything! Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about fuzzy farm friends that God made - like cows and sheep!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Flap your arms like bird wings while saying each word. 'God' (flap), 'made' (flap), 'everything!' (big flap and jump). Repeat 3 times with giggles!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

At this age, children are naturally drawn to animals and movement. This lesson combines both interests while reinforcing that God is the Creator of all living things. The movement activity helps burn energy while learning.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use enthusiastic voice changes for different birds
  • If child gets too excited, have them 'perch' (sit) for a moment
  • Point out real birds through windows if possible
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may get overstimulated with too much movement. Watch for signs of overwhelm and slow down if needed.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child attempts to flap arms, shows interest in bird pictures, tries to make bird sounds, connects that God made the birds

Extension Activities

  • Go on a backyard bird watching adventure and count how many birds you see
  • Make simple paper plate bird crafts using construction paper and let child 'fly' them around
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional bird-themed activities and the BibleMouse Printables Library for bird coloring pages

Ready for Tomorrow?

Great job completing today's lesson!
