← Day 3Day 4 of 180Day 5 β†’

Learning Objectives

1

Child will know that God made the stars to shine in the dark sky

2

Child will create a starry night craft using star stickers and black paper

3

Child will express wonder and thankfulness for God's beautiful creation

Genesis 1:16

β€œGod made the two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars.”

β€” Genesis 1:16 (WEB)

This verse shows us that God carefully made the stars as part of His wonderful creation to light up the night sky

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • black construction paper
  • star stickers (gold or silver work best)
  • flashlight from this week's materials

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Turn off the lights and use your flashlight to make light spots on the wall. Say, 'Yesterday we learned about the bright, warm sun! But what happens when the sun goes to sleep at night? It gets dark! But God didn't leave us in the dark - He made something special to twinkle and shine!'

πŸ’ Review Question: What did God make to give us light during the day?
2Teaching (5 min)

Keep the room dim and shine the flashlight up at the ceiling like stars. 'Look! God made beautiful stars to twinkle in the dark night sky! When it's nighttime and we can't see the sun, we can look up and see God's twinkling stars. They're like tiny lights that God put way up high to remind us that He's always taking care of us, even in the dark!'

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • Stars twinkle and shine in the dark night sky
  • God made the stars to give light when it's dark
  • We can see stars when we look up at night
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • Have you ever seen stars twinkling in the sky?
  • What do stars look like to you?
3Activity: Twinkling Star Sky (6 min)
craft

Create a beautiful starry night scene using black paper and star stickers. This hands-on craft helps little ones visualize God's nighttime creation while practicing fine motor skills.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Give your child a piece of black construction paper (this is the night sky)
  2. Let them peel and stick star stickers all over the black paper
  3. As they stick each star, say 'Twinkle, twinkle!' together
  4. When finished, turn off lights and shine flashlight on their creation to make it 'twinkle'
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Pre-peel some stickers and help guide little fingers to place them on the paper

Challenge: Add yellow paper circles for the moon or draw simple constellation patterns

4Closing (3 min)

Hold up your child's starry creation and celebrate! 'Look at your beautiful star sky! Just like God made real stars to twinkle in the night, you made this special picture. God made everything - the sun for day AND the stars for night!'

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • What did God make to shine in the dark sky?
  • When can we see the twinkling stars?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making the beautiful twinkling stars! Help us remember that You take care of us day and night. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll remember ALL the wonderful things God made - light, day, night, sun, AND stars!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Point to different things around the room (lamp, window, toy) and say together 'God made everything!' Use excited voices and big pointing gestures!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This lesson builds on the creation story progression, moving from general light/dark concepts to specific celestial bodies. At this age, children are fascinated by things that sparkle and twinkle, making stars a perfect bridge to understanding God's detailed care in creation.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use lots of 'twinkle' sound effects and finger movements to keep engagement high
  • If possible, plan to show real stars outside after dark to reinforce the lesson
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may be afraid of the dark - emphasize that God's stars make the night beautiful and safe

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child points to or mentions stars, uses 'twinkle' in play, or shows excitement about nighttime sky

Extension Activities

  • Sing 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' together and talk about how God made that little star
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional star-themed activities and the BibleMouse Song Collection for creation songs to reinforce this week's theme
