Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome your child and say, 'Today in our BibleMouse lesson, we're going to have fun thanking God for making the bright, warm sun that lights up our day! Let's get started!

πŸ’ Review Question: What did we learn about God creating light and darkness yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Hold up a flashlight and turn it on. Say, 'This flashlight gives us light, but it's not as bright as the sun, is it? The sun is so much brighter and warmer! God made the sun to light up our whole world during the day. The Bible tells us that on the first day, God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God made the sun to give us light during the day.
  • The sun is so much brighter than a flashlight.
  • We can thank God for making the warm, bright sun.
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What do you like best about the sun?
  • How does the sun make you feel?
3Activity: Sunshine Dance (6 min)
movement

Invite your child to stand up and pretend to be the sun. Encourage them to sway, twirl, and move their arms like the rays of the sun. Play some upbeat music and have them dance and move to the music, thanking God for the sun.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Stand up and stretch your arms out wide like the sun's rays.
  2. Sway and twirl, moving your arms and body to the music.
  3. Thank God for making the bright, warm sun that lights up our day!
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Younger children can simply sway back and forth while sitting or standing.

Challenge: Older children can add more complex movements like jumping, spinning, or acting out the sun's movement across the sky.

4Closing (3 min)

Great job thanking God for the sun with your Sunshine Dance! Let's review what we learned today. Who made the sun? (God did!) What does the sun do? (It lights up our day!) How did you feel when you were dancing and moving like the sun? Encourage your child to share their thoughts and feelings.

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who made the sun?
  • What does the sun do for us?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for making the bright, warm sun that lights up our day. Help us to always be grateful for your amazing creation. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow in our BibleMouse lesson, we'll learn about the stars that God made to shine in the night sky. I can't wait!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Sing the memory verse to the tune of 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star' while doing simple motions like clapping or swaying.

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This lesson builds on the previous days' lessons about God creating light, day, and night. The focus is on specifically thanking God for the sun, which is a key part of God's creation.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage your child to really get into the Sunshine Dance, modeling the movements yourself.
  • Use a flashlight to compare the brightness of artificial light to the sun's brightness.
  • Hang up the yellow construction paper and star stickers as a visual reminder of the sun and stars.
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Young children may have a hard time staying focused for the full 15 minutes. Be prepared to adjust the lesson as needed.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Signs that your child understands God made the sun, like pointing out the sun, asking to do the Sunshine Dance again, or expressing gratitude for the sun.

Extension Activities

  • Make sun prints by placing objects on black paper in the sun and seeing the shadows they create.
  • Read a book about the sun from the BibleMouse Read-Aloud Library.
