β€” Psalm 139:14 (WEB)

God carefully and wonderfully made every part of us, including our amazing eyes that let us see His beautiful creation

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • hand mirror
  • colorful objects (toys, blocks, flowers, etc.)
  • paper tubes or binoculars
  • eye pictures from BibleMouse materials

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Start by having your child look in the hand mirror. Say, 'Look at those beautiful eyes! Who do you see?' Let them giggle and make faces. Then say, 'Last week we learned that God loves you SO much! Today we're going to discover something amazing God gave you - your eyes!'

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you show me how big God's love is? (stretch arms wide)
2Teaching (5 min)

Hold up the mirror again and point to your child's eyes. 'God gave you these special eyes! Your eyes are not just any eyes - they're YOUR special eyes that God made just for you. The Bible tells us that God made us fearfully and wonderfully - that means He made us amazing and special!' Show the eye pictures from your BibleMouse materials.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God made your eyes to see all the beautiful things around you
  • Your eyes are special and different from everyone else's eyes
  • God loves you and gave you the gift of sight to enjoy His world
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What do you see when you look around our room?
  • What's your favorite thing to look at?
3Activity: Eye Spy Adventure (6 min)
sensory

Take your child on a visual exploration adventure using their eyes to discover God's wonderful world around them.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Give your child the paper tubes or binoculars to 'explore' with their eyes
  2. Walk around your space and have them look through the tubes at different colorful objects
  3. For each object, say 'I spy with my special eyes that God made...' and describe what you see
  4. Let your child take turns being the 'eye spy' leader
  5. End by looking in the mirror again and saying 'Thank you, God, for my special eyes!'
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Simply point to and name colorful objects without the tubes, focusing on 'eyes see' language

Challenge: Have child describe what they see using simple color and size words

4Closing (3 min)

Sit together and practice the memory verse while pointing to your eyes. Look around one more time and name three favorite things you can see. Your BibleMouse curriculum includes wonderful activities all week to explore how special your eyes are!

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who gave you your special eyes?
  • What can your eyes do?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making my eyes so I can see all the beautiful things You made. Help me remember that You made me special. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll discover all the amazing colors your special eyes can see!

Psalm 139:14

β€œGod made me special!”

β€” Psalm 139:14 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Point to your eyes and say 'God made me special!' then look around and point to three things you can see. Repeat three times with excitement!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This lesson begins a week focused on the sense of sight and God's intentional design of our bodies. At age 3, children are naturally curious about their bodies and love exploring with their senses.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use lots of excitement and wonder in your voice when talking about their eyes
  • If your child wears glasses, emphasize that glasses help their special eyes work even better
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may be distracted by the mirror or want to play with it instead of listening - that's perfectly normal exploration!

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child shows interest in looking at things, attempts to repeat 'God made me special,' and engages with the visual exploration

Extension Activities

  • Take a nature walk and collect interesting things to look at with a magnifying glass
  • Look through family photos and talk about all the special people and places your eyes can see
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional eye-themed coloring pages and activities
