Genesis 2:8-9

β€œYahweh God planted a garden eastward, in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground Yahweh God made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food.”

β€” Genesis 2:8-9 (WEB)

This verse shows us how God carefully made a special garden home for Adam and Eve, filled with beautiful trees and good food - just like we'll explore in our sensory activity today.

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • toy garden items (from weekly materials)
  • fruit pictures (from weekly materials)
  • green paper (from weekly materials)
  • flower stickers (from weekly materials)
  • real flowers or leaves (if available)
  • small basket or container

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Let's start by remembering what we learned last week - that you are so special to God! He made you and loves you very much. Today we're going to learn about a beautiful garden that God made for the very first people, Adam and Eve.

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you remember - who made you so special? That's right, God did!
2Teaching (5 min)

God made Adam and Eve, and then He made something extra special for them - a beautiful garden! Let's listen to what the Bible tells us about this garden. Read Genesis 2:8-9 in simple terms: 'God planted a garden and put Adam there. God made every tree grow that was beautiful to look at and good for food.' What a wonderful home God made for them!

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God made beautiful trees that were pretty to look at
  • God made trees with yummy fruit for Adam and Eve to eat
  • God made this special garden to be Adam and Eve's home
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think the garden looked like?
  • What kinds of trees and flowers do you think God put there?
3Activity: Garden Sensory Exploration (6 min)
sensory

Create a mini sensory garden experience using the materials provided in your BibleMouse curriculum. Children will explore different textures, colors, and scents while learning about God's beautiful creation.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Spread out the green paper as your 'garden ground' and let your child help arrange the toy garden items on top
  2. Give your child the fruit pictures to touch and describe - 'This apple is red and smooth!' 'This orange is bumpy!'
  3. Let them stick flower stickers around the garden while talking about the pretty colors God made
  4. If you have real flowers or leaves, let them gently touch and smell them
  5. Put everything in the basket and let them 'harvest' the garden like Adam and Eve might have done
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just one or two items at a time, letting child explore each thoroughly before adding more

Challenge: Have child sort items by color, count the flowers, or describe each item using different senses

4Closing (3 min)

What a wonderful time exploring God's beautiful garden! Just like God made this special place for Adam and Eve, He makes beautiful things for us to enjoy too. Let's thank Him for flowers, trees, and yummy food!

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • What did God make for Adam and Eve to live in?
  • What are some beautiful things God made in the garden?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making such beautiful things! Thank You for flowers and trees and yummy food. Help us remember that You made everything! Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about how Adam and Eve got to walk and talk with God in their beautiful garden - God was their friend!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Practice our memory verse by pointing to different things around the room and saying 'God made everything!' Point to a flower, a tree outside, your child, yourself - each time saying the verse with joy and excitement.

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

The Garden of Eden represents God's perfect provision and care for humanity. For PK3 children, focus on God's love shown through making beautiful, good things rather than theological concepts about perfection or the fall.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use lots of descriptive words during the sensory activity - 'soft,' 'smooth,' 'colorful,' 'sweet-smelling'
  • Follow your child's lead and interests - if they're fascinated by one item, spend extra time exploring it together
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may want to put items in their mouth - redirect to appropriate sensory exploration like touching and smelling

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child shows curiosity about the items, attempts to describe what they observe, and connects the activity to 'God made this'

Extension Activities

  • Take a nature walk and collect leaves, flowers, or interesting rocks to add to your garden collection
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for Grade PK3 Bible for additional garden-themed coloring pages and activities to extend the learning throughout the week
