Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Yesterday we learned that God made YOU special - your eyes, nose, mouth, hands, and toes! Today we're going to talk about something else wonderful God made - your family!

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you show me your special hands that God made?
2Teaching (5 min)

God didn't just make you all by yourself - He made you to be part of a family! Look at our family photos together. God made each person in your family because He loves you and wants you to have people who love you too.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God made mommies and daddies to take care of their children
  • Families come in different sizes - some big, some small - but God made them all
  • God wants families to love each other and help each other
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • Who is in your family?
  • How does your family show love to you?
3Activity: My Family Discussion Circle (6 min)
discussion

Sit in a cozy circle with your child and family photos. Let your little one hold each photo while you talk about that family member and how God made them special.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Look at each family photo together and name each person
  2. Talk about what makes each family member special and how they show love
  3. Use paper dolls to represent your family members and let child arrange them together
  4. Color simple family pictures while continuing to talk about God's gift of family
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just immediate family members (mommy, daddy, child) and use simple words like 'love' and 'hug'

Challenge: Include extended family members and talk about different ways families help each other

4Closing (3 min)

God gave you such a wonderful gift when He made your family! Your BibleMouse curriculum shows us that families are one of God's special creations, just like everything else He made.

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who made your family?
  • How does your family show love to you?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Thank you, God, for making our family. Thank you that we love each other because You love us first. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll remember all the special ways God made people - including you!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Use family photos while saying the verse - point to each family member and say 'God made Mommy! God made Daddy!' then say the verse together with big arm gestures

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This lesson builds on the creation theme by focusing on God's design for families. At this age, children are very family-centered and this helps them see God's love through their family relationships.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use your actual family photos to make this personal and concrete
  • If you have a non-traditional family structure, emphasize that God made YOUR family special for you
  • Keep the focus on love and thankfulness rather than family roles or rules
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may get distracted by the photos or want to talk about people not present. Gently guide back to thanking God for family.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child can name family members and shows understanding that God made their family

Extension Activities

  • Create a simple family tree craft using handprints for each family member
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional family-themed activities and the BibleMouse Printables Library for family coloring pages
